Fandom: DCU, Wonder Woman (2017)

Content Notes: This is a quick one, sketched with pencil. Don't have the time to do a proper watercolour painting job as yet. So in the mean time, I've added some digital tinting in Photoshop, as well as played around with the lighting. I actually like the results. ^___^

A night's sleep helps out a lot. The dreams were angsty but I think they resolved a bunch of issues. So, am feeling less losery.

In cheery news my pal in Berlin sent me chocolate and two of them are utterly delicious summer flavors of Ritter Sport: pink grapefruit and blackberry. Yum! There are two other Ritter Sports and they're nut filled and also look delicious. It's fun getting German chocolate from someone who knows me so well. I've already written her thank you card and will send it off later on today.

Today it's more job hunting while also burning the prayer candles hoping I get a kickass job. I know, I'm superstitious...and not very religious. But it worked several times before. Please let it work this time.

In a couple of weeks my mom and I are off to see the White Sox on a giveaway day. Hopefully we can get the retro jerseys! We're going to leave ultra early.

It sucks not having a car because it would make finding a job easier, I'd have more options. And I could visit my parents more easily. But I don't miss the taxes nor the parking tickets.

If I start feeling low today, which is most likely, I better be more proactive and do something like knit or color. Or...relearn some ukulele chords. I've let that go lax for so long that I might as well take the beginner course again. Happily, though, I have all the handouts and a beginner book to go to instead of shelling out quite a few bucks for a class.

My neighbor is moving to the South and gave me a bunch of framed prints and I have no idea where to hang them. I might do as some suggested and hang them close to the floor. I also have three prints that need framing so when I get a job those will go up high on the walls. Two of the prints are illustrations by Chad Sell. They're of contestants from RuPaul's Drag Race and they're gorgeous.

  1. Google No - DuckDuckGo

So I saw via Tumblr this week that Google did this sneaky thing where they have quietly dropped the ban on personally identifiable web tracking. Meaning: Until now, Google collected your data, but did not attach your name to it. Now, they can, and will. O_O

There are helpful instructions at the link on how to opt out of this, which I went ahead and followed. Furthermore, I decided to make DuckDuckGo my default search engine, since its main feature is that it is a Non-Tracking search engine.

  2. Stay Motivated

Here's an article (via [personal profile] umadoshi) on How to Stay Motivated in an era of stupidity, which is worth the read, especially as artists and creators in fandom. We could all benefit from reminding ourselves that the act of creating has merit and value to ourselves and each other, now more than ever.

  3. Art Challenges

    • Defenders Big Bang:
Have to remember to get started on this one! Art is due on 1st August. I was holding out to read the author's completed story, but since I have an idea of what direction I want to go in from the initial draft, I think I'm going to go ahead and start on the artwork this week.

    • Weekly Challenge #3 - Song Lyric:
This week's prompt at [community profile] drawesome is a Lyric from one of your favourite songs. I got Wonder Woman (2017) on my mind, and there are so many songs on my playlist that make me think of her bravery, strength of character, and general awesomeness. I am fangirling that movie SO HARD, so this is the perfect incentive to do a bit of WW fanart.

Howdy! I'm running out of savings and though I'm going on interviews (I've got a big one on Monday) I'm still unsure how I'm going to get by next month. If you can spare a little money it will be greatly appreciated. And if you PM me via Dreamwidth/LJ with your address I'll send you a hand drawn thank you card.

Here's the link to my GoFundMe account: Donate here.

In other news I'm jogging further. Yay! It'll be a while, though, before I can do a 5k run. My goal is to be able to do that by October. Maybe if I sign up for a race that will give me the oomph to be ready by then? (bites fingers)

Back in May I turned 50 and got an AARP membership. Dudes and dudettes, I'm old! I can get discounts with my AARP card! I actually read the magazines they produce! Send help stat!

For the 4th of July I went on a family reunion to a rural part of PA where cellphone service was spotty at best. It actually was nice not to be tethered to technology. We hung out at my cousin's, saw fireworks up close in a farm field, had an anniversary lunch for my Aunt and Uncle, and talked a lot! There even was a community ham dinner that benefited the volunteer fire department. It was family style and we ate at long tables alongside strangers who were very nice. The pie? OMG! I had the strawberry rhubarb and it was homemade.

Then I was off to NJ to visit another cousin and my cousin-in-law, his wife. I got to go to NYC and eat at Junior's and follow it up with a Broadway show, Waitress. Which was good, btw. It's based on a movie of the same name and though I had seen that movie I had forgotten so much! The music was great and the actors did a fabulous job.

The next day I watched Wimbledon for a bit and then we went off to the zoo. I always feel bad about the animals in the zoo but didn't want to tell my companion that. We just couldn't think of what else to do. Oh! And we had excellent Indian buffet before the zoo.

On Friday I hung out a bit with my cousin and his wife's darling dog, a Papillon, and then headed home. The cousin and his wife were so kind to pay for me to visit them, I told the wife I will do some art for her as a thank you. I might do a drawing or painting of their dog, perky ears and all!

Now I've been studying up on grammar, searching for a job, and jogging...and reading the AARP Bulletin. Heh. Today I'm off to see my doctor and get my scrips filled and go pick them up. Exciting, I know! cats were so well taken care of by Miss [personal profile] talitha78, they were happy and relaxed when I came home.

We had a family reunion in rural PA which was a blast. Nothing like seeing major fireworks for an hour parked out on the lawn of a farm, the fireworks seemingly going off over our heads.

After PA I headed to NJ and spent one day in NYC.

We ate at Junior's and though I didn't have cheesecake with my meal I bought some to go.

And then we went and saw Waitress on Broadway. I had originally seen the movie so I was eager to see how it was adapted to a musical. I think they did a pretty damn good job!

And then we headed back to NJ. Next time I'm in NYC I promise to give everyone a heads up so we can get together.

So Teen Wolf fandom is having a meltdown over the new trailer for the final episodes of Season-whatever. Apparently Tyler Hoechlin is back! Derek and Stiles might actually be in the same room together? IS THIS THE REAL LIFE??

    Trailer on YouTube )

I stopped watching when they killed off Erica, Boyd and Allison on Season 3, but never left the fandom. My shippy heart is stuck on Sterek for life. ♥____♥ THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!! \o/ ...Actually, no - it's probably going to SUCK :b , and Stiles and Derek might only share screen-time for those 3 seconds shown in the trailer:

But who cares?? Fandom will come through! I am already anticipating AO3 being flooded with fix-it fic, and whole epics being written around those 3 seconds of interaction. :D :D :D

Thought I'd share a picture of all the baby dragons together on my sideboard. I originally had them all over the place but decided to put them all together. The three-headed dragon is from Miss [personal profile] dine and it's a cutie! The red dragon in the back I got several years ago from someone in Russia who makes articulated dragons. I had to have a professional doll artist put the wings on it as it looked too daunting for me to do!

Content Notes: Drawn and shaded with watercolour pencils, with watercolour paint applied to the background. Created for the [community profile] drawesome Weekly Challenge #2 (Word Prompt: Villainous).

Title taken from a particularly memorable line by Captain Flint: "They took everything from us. Then they call me a monster?". I find the show's examination of good guy/bad guy, and its running theme of "heroic" characters carrying out villainous actions, to be quite fascinating.

    1. Mail!

Thanks for the awesome Doctor Who themed postcards, [personal profile] misbegotten! I looooove them. ^___^

    2. Icon

I saw this pair of pretty amazing gifs (from the animated Avengers Assemble tv series, I think) via Tumblr the other day... Steve Rogers: Artist in Despair )

...and could not pass up the chance to make myself an icon. It is quite literally /o\ . Hee.

    3. Craft Project: Class gifts

I found this really great idea on Pinterest for gifting my class with an End of the Academic Year token: a Student Survival Kit. It's a collection of items like pen, eraser, paperclips, etc., but with a little meaning behind each one. Here are 2 pics showing the gift bags I made up for each student, with the items listed in the front: 2 Photos: Student Survival Kit )

I decided to add my own spin to it, and make it a cute, interactive, bonding experience for the class. The really special part had to do with the last item: the puzzle piece (To know that you are an important part of the picture). I found an inspirational poster online, and Photoshopped in some stars, the class name, and an overlay of a puzzle template. Printed on bristol board, cut out the puzzle pieces, labelled each one with a student's name and added the individual pieces to their gift bags.

And then waited for them to open up their bags, find the puzzle piece and then slowly realise it might be part of a larger picture. I sat back and enjoyed watching them scramble to get together and contribute all their pieces, eager to solve it. Delight at seeing their class name form and touched by the message. There were lots of Awwwww's and sentimental mush. LOL. It was a nice moment, and worth the lack of sleep and painstaking work of cutting all those puzzle pieces the night before. :b

    1. FIRST DAY OF SUMMER VACATION! \o/ \o/ \o/

Actually, I'm meeting a student in an hour, and will be helping her to complete an art project over the next 3 days, and then I will be working 9-to-5 on a job marking papers for a national exam for the next two weeks. Plus I agreed to run the Art-and-Crafts section at a kids day camp that starts next weekend., haha, not so much with the vacation. :b But! After all that is over, I might still have a week or two to myself! Maybe? /o\

    2. It's a good thing that I spent some time last weekend, not just moving my Photobucket pictures to a new space, but cataloging which posts they came from. More and more images in my journal turned up with broken links this week. And then I read how some people couldn't even access the pics in their Photobucket account.

So I went in and saved all the pics I had on there from before 2007, and with that done, I deleted my Photobucket account for good. No sense in having broken images with that stupid Photobucket ransom note all over the place. I'm hoping to restore the original images over the summer, and maybe even update my website with new artwork from the past 3-4 years. :b

    3. I continue to be delighted by how things are shaping up with the [community profile] drawesome community. I have always looked to Fandom as a place to fit in and interact and do fun things with other fan artists, and over the years with the dwindling activity on LJ, all of that had dried up for me.

So it's exciting to think about once more having a place, here on DW, where I can get that sense of Fannish Art Community that I miss a lot. And I can't express how happy it makes me, that so many other Fan Artists are on board with this. ^___^ People often say "Be the change you want to see", and after so many years, I'm so glad I took the plunge to create the comm. And thanks as always to all you guys for the support. :)

    4. And related to #3, this week's Drawing Challenge at the comm is a word prompt: VILLAINOUS. Which, so cool! I'm thinking about like, grey area villains - Maleficent (the movie), Elphaba from Wicked, Loki, Smallville's Lex Luthor, Irene Adler, The Master from Doctor Who, Dottie Underwood from Agent Carter, even Captain Flint from Black Sails. EEE! Plenty possibilities with this one. :D :D :D
