Thank you for the suggestion about the sword, Phil. Since I was lazy, I decided to stick with cardboard (which is in abundant supply at my house). But I did reinforce the "blade" by wrapping it with packing tape before I covered it in foil. It'll be bent by the end of the night, but not as quickly as unprotected cardboard.
