Just got back from visiting [livejournal.com profile] slodwick in Indiana. Had a great time! The drive to and fro was nice - beautiful sunny weather, exquisite fall foliage, no traffic or cops, and the nicely placed travel plaza that was right there when I needed it even had fairly clean restrooms. Woo!

So, Slod lives in a picturesque rural area. Lots of trees, corn, u-pick pumpkin patches...I just kept thinking that it was probably pretty close to what Smallville should look like. Though apparently Indiana has some issues with road signs: Slod and I laughed pretty hard when we the road we were on dead-ended at a cross-street, and there were two detour signs with the arrows pointing toward each other. (Slod, if you think of it one day, take a pic of that, please?) Leaving no where to go, apparently, except the middle of the intersection.

Some highlights of the trip:

  • Slod's family and dog. Slod's mom is great, and it turned out we had both lived in the Central Valley in California, so we chatted about all the small towns out there. And Slod's dog, Molly, is the cutest Golden Retriever. Absolutely adorable.

  • The place we ate lunch has Kids Karaoke on Tuesday nights. How damn funny must that be?

  • I made the Double Chocolate Toffee Cookie recipe that I got from cooking class last Wednesday. Yay, they turned out great! (If any of you want the recipe, let me know.) Slod's mom seemed to really like them, so that made me happy. Doesn't it always feel great when you make something and people like it?

  • I got to see all of Slod's WIP videos and fics. You guys, she's really good. Can't wait until they're posted!

  • Watching DVD's. We watched Sorority Boys, Notting Hill, and Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil. Sorority Boys generated a case of the laughyhurts, especially as Slod paused or slow-mo'd the funny faces MR made. We kept saying "We need a screencap of that face with the words "this is my tv boyfriend!" You know those screencaps of MR looking all sexy and poised in his various roles? This was so not that.

Some people out there didn't like Sorority Boys, which is fine with me. I enjoyed it. But let me just assure you all that no matter how much the movie may have sucked, the Special Features of the DVD sucked about a thousand times more. There was a kind of funny (but much too short) Behind the Scenes Featurette, which wasn't bad. But there was also a horribly done piece called something like "All the Angles". The Director, Assistant Director, Key Makeup Guy, and Stunt Coordinator all were outfitted with cameras during the taping of the fight between Daisy and Adina (culminating in the infamous dildo fencing scene). Trouble was, the cameras were all pretty much pointing up toward the ceiling. Then these people would watch the filming on the monitors. So the cameras were only picking up the other crew/tech people around them for the most part. And anytime it looked like we might see some of the actual filming, that was thwarted by the giant-ass bar they had across the bottom of the screen with the person's name. Asshats. It was the worst.

Also, getting a look at the Director made me guess that one of the reasons the movie wasn't better was because this guy would have never made it into a fraternity. Or only into the geeky/dweeby guy fraternity, unless by some miracle he had some relative who was a member of a cooler frat. In my opinion.

  • In honor of the Langs, we ate breakfast at the IHOP. Heh.

  • On the way home, I spotted some goats as I drove past a field...and thought of [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy.

All in all, a fantastic time! Slod, thank you so much!

Slod and I were going to go to the zoo to see if there were any baby goats and to take a picture for you. But we ended up sleeping too late. Oh well, next time.

Love you too!
