The more I think about the episode, the more I dislike it. And this time, not because of any of the actors...this one's all on the writers.
Clearly Todd Slavkin and David Swimmer have been paying attention to some of what they've no doubt seen on some message boards:
- they gave us wet tee-shirt Clark
- they gave us Chlana
- they gave us girl-girl love
- they brought back a villian of the week
- they brought back Whitnips
Sure, those are all good things. But then they wrote a script that totally sucked!
- They killed off Whitnips.
- They never explained how Tina was able to fake her death.
- Then they killed off Tina (with a totally obvious weapon foreshadowing, I might add; it felt like an early Buffy ep for a second there).
- They ignored poor Pete - they left him there, injured, in the hallway.
- They emasculated Lex (what the fuck was that stupid ass speech they made him give to Doctor Dropkick at the end?!? besides boring, that is).
The worst thing they did? Only giving us ONE scene of Clark and Lex interacting. Not that they're supposed to be best friends and future enemies or anything. Hell no, that angle's not interesting AT ALL. Why the fuck would anyone want to see anything like that?
Okay, one more thing: what is that camera technique that sometimes makes Clark's face look like I'm seeing him through a fishbowl? Sometimes his closeups look so...so...round. It really makes him look weird.

Date: 2003-01-14 11:08 pm (UTC)Yes! They kept shooting him from like, 8 inches away from his face, down, and to one side about 10ยบ. It was bothering the hell out of me because it was like warped-gnome-face!Clark.
...or something.
But yes, someone should follow TW around at all times just--hosing the man down. Pretty.

Clark nips
Date: 2003-01-15 08:35 am (UTC)When describing the episode to a friend last night I commented that Clark and Lana had a wet tee-shirt contest, and Clark won.
Does the fact that I noticed Clark hit the purple ball into the pocket when playing pool indicate that I'm watching too closely?
