Dog Walkers Log, Leash Date 80118.06
Feb. 13th, 2003 02:11 amWe got the phone call yesterday. The caller was the owner of the dog training/kennel place that trained Fred, our bulldog. She was calling because another client of hers could no longer take care of his bulldog; would we like to take in a second dog?
Mr. Dis was all for it, giving the idea 4 paws up right away. Me, being the worrier warrior, was not so sure. Somehow I came up with the bright idea of taking this other dog, Charlie, on a "test drive."
So this afternoon we picked up Charlie. Within moments of getting him home, all heck was breaking loose in our house. It's not like Fred and Charlie hadn't ever spent time together - they've played together at the dog trainers frequently - but this time, it was on Fred's turf.
There were power struggles over toys; power struggles over attention from Mr. Dis and I; power struggles being acted out as they wrestled; and much chasing of our poor cats.
The trainer had given us instructions on the best way to integrate Charlie into the household, and boy oh boy, just getting the two dogs to follow our basic commands was a strain. At one point I turned to Mr. Dis and said, "this is waaaaaayyy easier than having kids, right?" When he laughed and said, "Oh yes," I forswore ever having children.
Charlie is pretty cute though, and the poor guy is starved for attention. He seems to know this, though, and use it to his advantage in that way that all dogs do...he's seemingly playing up the "I'm so cute, gotta love me!" or "I'm so neglected, gotta love me!" trump cards that dogs have.
Well, Charlie, you have until Saturday to earn yourself a place in our household.
(PS - isn't it amazing what kind of stuff you can find on the 'Net? Though I have no idea what the formulas and such are behind Star Trek's Star Dates, I found a website that told me what star date today is. Guess that makes me a moderate geek; if I was more of a geek, I'd understand Star Dates already. Let's all let our geek flags fly!)

Date: 2003-02-13 02:34 am (UTC)Heh. I bet two snoring bulldogs are just twice the fun. ;)
And, also... where is this dorktastic website, doll? You gotta hook up us lazy geeks!

Date: 2003-02-13 07:37 am (UTC)Fortunately, Charlie doesn't have quite the same depth of snoring that Fred does. But it is funny when they're both making their snorting noises.

Date: 2003-02-13 06:08 am (UTC)Heh. When I read that I thought to myself, read no further that dog is staying. My oldest cat (not the one pictured here) is technically still on a "test drive" thirteen years later. Good luck. I hope Charlie makes the grade.
