Spent last night with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mei_x, [livejournal.com profile] spasticat, and [livejournal.com profile] xica_s (we missed you, [livejournal.com profile] bunglegirl).

Met at my place, then tromped over to Wishbone for some yummy southern-style cooking, some drinks, and lively conversation. All of the women I was with are so charming and witty and tell great stories! It was so much fun.

Then back to my place so we could get the car and decide where to go bowling. The first place we went to turned out to be a Rock 'N Bowl kind of place, so everything was glow in the dark and the music was blaring. A couple of glances at each other and we were out of there! [livejournal.com profile] xica_s said it was like a Rave In A Cave Bowl, which made us all laugh.

The next place was better, but there was no parking. Sure, they said there was free parking at a nearby lot, but the guy at the little parking attendant shack looked so psycho-killer that we decided it would be better to leave. Seriously, he was scary. He looked scarier than Jack Nicholson did at the end of The Shining.

Parking finally accomplished, we went to get our bowling on. The guy behind the counter was one of those smart-alecky types that thinks he's funny. We walk up and he says, "I'm sorry, we're closed." even though the place is open 24 hours on Friday and Saturdays. We pretty much just stared at him until he said, "No, I'm just joking." Whatever, dude, give us the score sheet and the tickets for shoes, would ya?

The actual bowling was funny, since we weren't anywhere near as serious as the people around us. There was much shouting of things like, "Be the pins. Be the TRUCK!" and "Magnets!" (which was our all-purpose excuse for when the pins wouldn't fall down; they were clearly being held in place by magnets). [livejournal.com profile] mei_x turned out to be a ringer - and the most elegant bowler I have ever seen.

All was good, up until we went to pay. At which point, the guy behind the counter decides he's going to ask us trivia questions, and if we get them right, we don't have to pay. His specialty was rock-n-roll trivia...and I knew none of the answers. It didn't matter though, because even when we managed to get the answer right, he'd say, "Just one more!" and fire out another question. His favorite way of starting out a question was "Now we all know that" - which of course, we DIDN'T all know...

So, after about 30 minutes of this (accompanied by much inching toward the door), we were all ready to give the guy a bunch of money just so we could leave. It was excruciating. Then, he insisted we must all do a shot from the bar. Due to my saying that I couldn't drink and drive, he ordered up shots of Apple Pucker, since it has a lower alcohol content than other shots. There was no escaping the shots, so we did them and he finally let us leave.

Next time, we need to take a guy with us, so he can go to the counter to pay. Either that, or we should just stick to karaoke in the bar there.

Other than the being trapped in the bowling alley, it was a fantastic night. I look forward to spending time with all of you again!

(By the way, thanks for letting me make you listen to the Kermit/Fozzie comedy routine. That one always cracks me up and it was nice of y'all to humor me.)

Oh, and, [livejournal.com profile] spasticat, thank you SO much for the green tea Pocky!

Definitely! I had a blast with you guys.

And the Muppets CD ruled. I've got to track down a copy.

And that it wasn't The Doors who sang that song. *rolls eyes*

Maybe next time we can plan something in Schaumburg so you don't have to do the driving. Whatever we do, I'd love to see you again - you're great!

The Muppet CD is "The Muppet Show 25th Anniversary Collection: Music, Mayhem, & More" (or something close to that). I got it off Amazon.

All work and no play...

I'm so sad I didn't get to go out with you guys. Even though I suck at bowling and I don't like to lose I'm sure you guys would have entertained me enough to keep my mind off my lack of skills. I was looking forward to finally meeting the elusive [livejournal.com profile] spasticat too. I can't speak for [livejournal.com profile] mei_x but the suburbs are not the most happening place to hang out. I've only been to one or two places out here so I can't vouch for the nighlife.
