Here's Thinking Of You, Cyb
Sep. 20th, 2002 12:11 amI've been thinking of the utterly fantastic and tremendously funny
yaycyb lately. Cyb, I know you're on a "vacation" but if you're lurking about at all, this is for you.
Sometimes when I haven't spoken to a friend in a while, it seems like the universe sends me little reminders of the person. I'll see a book or tv show we've discussed, hear a song that we've laughed over as we've twisted its meaning in chat, or will hear a total stranger say something remarkably similar to a comment my missing friend had made. Then it's like a quiet alarm goes off or small bell rings: a little "ding" and I think of the person I've been missing. Eventually, I hear enough of these dings often enough to get me to contact said friend.
(Some people would say that my subconscious is leading me to situations that remind me of my friend rather than the other way around. Whatever. The end result is that I'm thinking of the person and take steps to contact said individual.)
Tonight's friend in question is Cyb. I "met" Cyb for the first time on the Smallville threads at Television Without Pity and instantly admired her quick wit and sense of humor. Then came the Dangerous Pants and Other fanfics and I fell in love with Cyb's brain. Cyb is famous around here for her funny, smutty, and shmoopy fanfic (often with accompanying artwork) and her 13 Year Old Girl Lex Diary (most definitely with artwork).
The tricks the universe played to get me to think of Cyb? Scented Gel Pens and Johnny Depp. Rilly. I kid you not.
First I saw the Gel Pens at the grocery store near my house. They caught my eye for some unknown reason. Well, okay, that's not true. My eyes are sharp when it comes to food and the packaging clearly says "Snack Scents" in fairly large print. Anyway. "What the?" I said to myself and picked up the package. Yes, Virginia, Sanford really is making Snack Scented Gellyz Pens (Smell the Gell). Now you can write while sniffing the aromas of Cola, Popcorn, Bubble Gum, Cinnamon, and Chocolate!
Hm, why does this suddenly strike me as the innocent start down the road to huffing?
The second Subliminal Cybliminal Message happened while I was watching tv. I happened to catch the Inside The Actor's Studio show featuring Johnny Depp. Loud chortles were heard in my house when the somewhat smarmy James Lipton asked Mr. Depp what his inspiration was for his characterization of Ichabod Crane in Sleepy Hollow...and Mr. Depp said he thought he was surely going to be fired from the film in the first two weeks because he played Ichabod as though he was a 13 year old girl. That's right. Then he called Ichabod a "pre-pubescent lady." Rilly rilly!
(Cyb, just so you know, when I couldn't easily find the right website for these gellyz pens on the 'net tonight, I hopped in my car and went to the store to buy them. Yes, I am that crazy. Plus it was going to drive me insane - and possibly blind - to keep looking through all the gel pens websites my google search returned. So now I have a pack of 3 with your name on them. Send me an e-mail or shoot me an IM to give me your mailing address, please.)

Date: 2002-09-20 07:07 am (UTC)Of course, the movie also has another Cyb standard - Christopher Walken - "Hey Ichabod, the flaming Jack O' Lantern is behind you!"

Date: 2002-09-20 07:37 am (UTC)And thanks for reminding me of Slash Walken in Sleepy Hollow. I remember loving the way he grunted through his "lines" of dialogue...all two of them. Heck, he may have improvised those lines. Gotta love the Walken.
I thought of Cyb last weekend
Date: 2002-09-20 09:32 pm (UTC)The thing about Johnny Depp and Sleepy Hollow is hysterical.

Date: 2002-09-20 11:43 pm (UTC)You're not pathetic, Pouncer. Remember, I'm the one who bought a Mr. Rogers tee-shirt because Rosenbaum wore one at the TCA's. And who gets a special little thrill out of the thought of dressing like him (and like Nash) when I wear it.
