All That And A Bag Of Chips

Last Thursday I flew to Seattle for a friend's wedding. God, how I miss the mountains and ocean! Chicago is so flat.
Anyway, some of the pre-wedding plans I had with other wedding attendees fell through. Hmm, I thought to myself, what the hell am I going to do now to occupy my spare time? A few minutes of deliberation later and a few quick phone calls found me on the road to Vancouver, BC. Squee! I had so much fun.
In all the time I had lived in Seattle previously, I had never made the trip up to Vancouver. Also, I am not usually a fan of road trips. But the drive from Seattle to Vancouver was absolutely beautiful! The rolling mountains, emerald trees, sparkling rivers, I loved it all. (Of course, it helped that there was almost no traffic, and that there was no wait at the border. That made it a relatively short ride.)
Next highlight? Definitely the people. Since I'd not been planning to go, I was extremely happy that some of my TWoP friends were available. I got to meet
anathema666,
divafive, and
eisakay! All of whom are FABULOUS! Funny, smart, and beautiful, all of them. I was lucky enough to have a meal with them, and then we watched Rave MacBeth and the Judging Amy episodes with Karate Rob.
Okay, Rave MacBeth? Not utterly craptastic. I've definitely seen worse. (Perhaps some of you remember my ultimate movie litmus test: comparing and contrasting to the worst movie I have seen to date - Autumn In New York. RM was assuredly better than AINY.) However, the sound sucked and some of the camera work was nauseating. Maybe not as nauseating as The Blair Witch Project (remember all that running through the woods? I almost threw up), but still fairly wonky. The presence of Mr. Rosenbaum did go a long way toward making the movie better!
Other really great things about Vancouver:
In no time at all, I had to return to Seattle for wedding festivities. My friend, Marilyn (the bride) is a stand-up comedian, so you know the wedding was a blast. Picture the bride and groom standing up before the pastor with Marilyn making funny faces throughout the ceremony. At one point, the pastor had to stop what he was saying to entreat the rest of us to pray for him. Heh.
Fast forward to the first dance. And imagine Marilyn acting out all the words to the song to her new husband. (Okay, don't ask me the name of the song. It's something like "If I Can't Kiss You" and is a jazzy/bluesy song. She said she found it on a CD from Pottery Barn, of all places.) Crikey, I hope my pictures of that turn out. Plus, when it came time for the Father-Daughter dance with Marilyn and her Dad, it turned out that she had picked a disco song. The song was one they had danced to all the time when she was a kid, so they were up there shaking it and having a great time. It was so fun to watch.
And at the after party at the hotel, the drunken brother (a hottie, to boot) of one of my other friends offered me $500 to wear a Catholic School Girl uniform. That was his fantasty, just to see me in the uniform, nothing else. What an ego boost, let me tell you! Unfortunately, I don't regularly travel with a school uniform, much less a slutty version of such. Damn, that would have been an easy $500!
Sigh. I had such a good time, it was hard to come home. Although, in my typical fashion, I caught the germs all the sick plane passengers had spread to me on the trip out to Seattle. Damn those old men coughing all around me! But that was the only down point of the whole trip. Whee!

Other really great things about Vancouver:
- Playing on the swings at the playground with
eisakay and
anathema666
- The Squealy Fangirl moment I had when I got close to Vancouver. "Michael Rosenbaum is somewhere around here! So much closer to me than at home!" At which point I promptly told myself to grow up and stop being such a 13YOG.
- Going to The Whip, and imagining all the SV scenes at the Beanery. Mmm, foamy Lex!
- Getting to spend some time watching tv with
anathema666: The Daily Show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Oz. Best of all, it was the musical episode of Oz! Seeing her reaction to Beecher and Schillinger sing together and bump-and-grind was hilarious. And conversations with her about: Bill Nye the Science Guy, Chris Meloni, Stephen Colbert's "Ice Skating Mafia" piece on The Daily Show, Mike Meyers, and other stuff like family, school, music, and pets.
